Casa Grande Fire Department Kicks Off CPR Awareness Week with Launch of AED Campaign

CASA GRANDE, AZ – In honor of National CPR Awareness Week, the Casa Grande Fire Department is proud to partner with Ak-Chin Indian Community and the Pulsepoint Foundation to launch a registration campaign for local automated external defibrillator devices (AEDs).

In preparation for the lifesaving Pulsepoint responder app that will allow residents to locate AEDs in the case of a cardiac emergency, the Casa Grande Fire Department is requesting assistance to build a comprehensive registry of the AEDs in Casa Grande. Businesses and facilities who possess an AED are asked to notify the Casa Grande Fire Department, who will update the information in the app that will launch in July.

Once launched, the Pulsepoint app alerts CPR-trained citizens to someone nearby who is having a sudden cardiac arrest. The app is activated simultaneously with the dispatch of local fire and EMS resources, reducing collapse-to-defibrillation times by increasing awareness of public AED locations through real-time mapping of nearby devices.

“National CPR and AED Awareness Week is the perfect time to launch this community campaign, and is a great opportunity for our community to actively participate in identifying these devices and educating themselves about the life-saving potential of CPR and AEDs,” said Dave Kean, Assistant Fire Chief.

Each year June 1 through 7 is celebrated as National CPR and AED Awareness Week. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, in coalition with the American Red Cross and the National Safety Council, the week is meant to help promote CPR and AED education, and spotlight the amount of lives that ordinary citizens can save with CPR and AEDs. The American Heart Association estimates that effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
