A multi-agency Pinal Avenue speed enforcement detail today resulted in 62 citations in total; 42 drivers were cited for speeding and 10 were given warnings for speed.  The remaining citations were for various (non-speeding) traffic violations. www.haroldkitching.com/police


The Casa Grande Police Department has arrested 66-year-old Cleveland Armstrong in connection to last week’s jewelry theft at Sommers Jewelers. Armstrong’s accomplice in the crime, 57-year-old Carolin Strange, was located by the Eloy Police Department and arrested, as well. Gloria Leija, who was Casa Grande city clerk for 19 years before retiring in January 2012, is back in the position. Her hiring was unanimously confirmed by the City Council during Tuesday night’s meeting. After retiring, Leija entered teaching but in 2013 took the position of clerk for the town of Wickenburg. www.haroldkitching.com/news

Developers have submitted a proposal to Casa Grande for Dreamland Villages, a project they say will be “a world class entertainment, resort, office and retail mixed use development … best compared to that of the Disney World Resort in Orlando Fla.” The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the idea during its March 2 meeting.
