Casa Grande Rallies to Finish First in National Competition for Historic Neon Sign Park Funds
After nearly a month of nationwide voting, the City of Casa Grande and Casa Grande Main Street are proud to have consistently led in the Partners in Prevention: Main Streets national campaign for a proposed historic Neon Sign Park. After maintaining first place for nearly two weeks, Casa Grande recently fell to second in the polls, and is now rallying residents, supporters, and surrounding communities to help Casa Grande regain its lead and cross the finish line. With the competition ending on October 31
, the public only has four more days to place their votes at VoteYourMainStreet.org
Located at the Arizona Plaza at 408 N. Sacaton Street
(between Florence Boulevard and 2nd Street), the proposed Neon Sign Park will contain salvaged historic neon signs from throughout the community, and will serve as a vibrant downtown destination for visitors.
“I’m so proud to see how Casa Grande has defied the odds to create such a strong presence for this campaign,” said Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland. “With only a few precious days left to vote, we are urging our partners, neighbors, friends, and other communities to get out there and help us secure the funds for this historic Neon Sign Park.”
Casa Grande is the only Arizona community competing in the campaign, and residents from any city, county, or state can vote for Casa Grande’s historic Neon Sign Park. The public can vote for a project up to five times each day, and the winners will be announced on November 2. Sites with the most votes will get grants of up to $150,000 each, with as many projects funded as possible from a pool of $1.5 million.
Partners in Preservation is a community-based partnership, created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express, to raise awareness of the importance of preserving historic places and their role in sustaining local communities. Partners in Preservation: Main Streets will award $2 million in grant funding from American Express to Main Street districts in need of preservation support across America.
